Aluminum alloy cremation urns

Going Home urns, selection of aluminum funeral urns in various styles
Aluminum is an excellent choice for urn construction. More affordable than brass, aluminum urns are lighter in weight, resistant to corrosion and can be finished/decorated in a variety of ways. We offer engraving for many of our aluminum funeral urns.

Choosing a size

Memorial cremation urn size comparison

Full Size/Adult/Large – 10″-11″ tall

Our full-sized cremation urns are used to hold the cremated remains of a loved one that weighed up to about 220 pounds, depending on the style chosen. Please note that the specific capacity of each of our urns is listed above in the Urn Specifications section, along with other important details regarding the urn. Please also note that the volume is ashes is calculated based on the traditional cremation method. If the aquamation method is used, the volume of ashes generated will typically be about 20-30% higher. About 6″ wide at the widest point, most of our full-size urns allow for both multi-line engraved text, as well as a graphic.

Sharing/Medium/Child Size – 6″ tall

In many cases, families choose multiple sharing urns so that each can retain a portion of the ashes. Also commonly used for children and pets, the typical capacity is up to about 60 pounds of pre-cremation weight (deduct about 20-30% if the aquamation method is used for cremation). They’re typically about 4″ wide at the widest point and we offer text and graphic engraving for most of our sharing-size memorial cremation urns. This size is also suitable for many pets.

Keepsake/Mini/Small – 2.75″ tall

This specialty size is useful when there is a desire to share a very small amount (less than 3 pounds/3 cubic inches) of cremains with family and friends. It’s a beautiful way to provide multiple keepsakes in the event that there are additional persons that wish to retain a keepsake of the dearly departed. It may also be used for very small pets, when sharing the remains with family members, or as a vessel for transporting a small amount of remains to a location for scattering. Although much smaller in size, we do offer text and graphic engraving on some of our keepsake-sized memorial urns.

Filling the urn

This aluminum cremation urn features a threaded lid closure for simplicity and security. It tightens clockwise like a jar, but you must be careful to line the threads up properly, as the metal threads could become damaged if you are forceful. The threads should mesh smoothly, with only a bit of resistance and should not become tighter after the initial 1 or 2 turns. If so, back the lid out and try again – do not force it. Upon opening your urn for the first time, you may find that the lid is a little snug. In this case, wrap a soft cloth around the lip, which will provide extra leverage while protecting the finish. Do not use tools, as they may easily damage the finish. Urns which have been damaged by improper opening attempts are not returnable. Once the urn is open, you can place the bag containing the ashes directly inside or you can choose to pour them in directly – there is no right or wrong way to do this. If you’re sharing the ashes with others, you can pour a portion of the ashes into the urn, then reseal the bag in order to transport the remaining ashes to the other person(s). You can create a more permanent closure by using super glue or other adhesive or sealant to the threads, being careful not to get the glue on the exterior of the urn.
